Our Wants vs. His Plans

IMG_6621.jpg

Have you ever heard that saying that “ Gods redirection is his protection “, or classic “ when you make plans God laughs”, I may be phrasing it wrong but you get it. Often we hear these phrases, but so many times we do not fully comprehend. Think about the times, where you wanted to go out with friends but your parents said “no”, or the time you were super late too a major event and felt like the world was crumbling. How often we are disappointed when we do not get what we want, and then when we see the bigger aspect, then we have a change of heart. Our wants verses Gods plans can be a tricky game to play, but who always wins is HIM! Aye, if I ain’t never told you “ DO NOT PLAY WITH THAT MAN UPSTAIRS!”, he real different!  I said that to say, sometimes our wants and desires can truly keep us from the very thing God has called us to do. As I was reminded today, just because God has given permission to some, does not mean the same applies to you. Our wants verses his plan, just because we want something and can obtain it does not mean God told you to actually retrieve it or go there.  Lets look at this a little more closely.

I remember as a kid, especially my teenage years. I came from a very strict household, aka my daddy didn’t play that (IYKYK). I remember so many times, wanting to go hang out with friends, wanting to go to parties, and my dad just flat out saying “ No “. I would sit there and be acting so distraught, like he just told me “ your social calendar is null and void “. Yes, I was being dramatic, I know this guys lets focus. The same breath that he would say “No”, I would also hear how the party was shot up, and sometimes there were casualties. A simple night of having fun can lead to many things.  All the while, I’m upset about not going out not realizing some of my friends might not have made it home due to other folks shenanigans, I couldn’t see the hedge of protection covering me. How many times has God told you No, and you just fell out on the floor like a toddler in the grocery store. How many times has God redirected you and you instantly got an attitude, because you wanted to go right and he said straight ahead?

As people we have all been told “ No “, it’s how we handle our no that makes the difference. No, is not always the end of the world. sometimes no is leading to greater. Lets look at this, relationships and giving relationship advice are big business these days, we all know it.  We all see it, the instagram , and facebook pages solely dedicated to marriage and how to get married (that’s really the one).  What happens when things do not work out? What happens when you get a “ No “, where you thought a yes would be. We fall out like the toddler in the grocery store, that we want to snatch up and whoop ourselves.  The funny thing is when you get that “ No”, “Maybe”, or “We will have to see”, lets face it, we look at many of those phrases as “ No”. What do we do, what do these experts tell us what to do? I’ve been on that end recently and let me just say crying is an understatement, but we not talking about me right now (laughing). I remember getting just that potential No, and treating it like the end of the world. Acting like God had never answered my promises, or like I had never seen his hand in my life. As soon as I got that “ No “, I acted like God had never done anything for me. How trifling right, but how many times have you done the same?

Our wants verses his plans, the very thing standing between us, we are one want away from destruction. Do Not let that go over your head, we are one want away from self destruction and potentially much worse. Often when we do not get our way, we conduct ourselves the way the world tells. Leave it if no longer serves YOU, part ways if it doesn’t benefit YOU, exit stage left if it doesn’t work for YOU! See where I am going with this, we are one want away from doing the exact opposite of what God has told us. Can I throw my hand back in the fire again real quick? I recently was in this very situation just a month ago actually. God showed me something so clear and direct it almost took my breath away, but when I did not get my way immediately when I wanted, oh boy. When I did not get my desired end result, I was ready to do what I do best, make my own alterations to Gods plan (chuckling hard). Oh, you stupid girl you (referring to me), hadn’t I learned long time ago trying to add your own alterations only shifts the plan even further or completely has a different result.

Many of people including myself are one want away from making a decision that was not clear or accurate. Many times if it doesn’t look, taste, and smell the way we want, you know the rest. How many times has your wants only in the end have hurt you, broken you and shifted you into a place you didn’t want to be. How many times has Gods “ No “, led you to self destructive behavior, in which the price was more than you could bear? I encourage you on today to not be afraid or angered by “ No “, do not allow temporary anger to make permanent decisions. Do not let your want over power a sound mind no matter how pretty it glitters. Do not let that simple “ No “, have you out here looking real crazy, I am just saying. Please don’t shoot the messenger, I didn’t mean any harm. Actually, I did I choose violence “ WAKE YOURSEL UP FOO! “, get it a twist on the classic line from Friday! Happy Tuesday darlings!
