The Modern Gentleman: Can he be found?

Let’s take a trip back to the past, well not too long, just 8 years ago. Most of us were in the “Yes We Can Movement” due to a young senator that was making a run for the office of President of The United States of America. 2008 was an amazing year for that moment when history was being made on that end, but in my viewpoint history was also being made for the male gender race. The smooth R&B crooner by the name of Ne-Yo gave us the body of work that changed my viewpoint of manhood and that album was “The Year of the Gentleman”. As I reflect back when I heard this album on a car ride from Daytona Beach to Jacksonville, Florida; It really changed my mindset as a man on how I would want to be viewed from the female perspective. If you watch the music videos that was featured in this piece of art, you will see a young man bring back “The Rat Pack” era.
The Gentlemen of today, what does he look like? How does he talk? What does he do to affect the world with his actions? How does he treat his woman? Those questions are strong and need to be answered because what once was the standard for men across the world has now become the prayer for a lot of women. Can I get an Amen?!
Many get confused about a gentleman when it comes to the perspective of what he is. Please allow me to reassure you, this is both a lifestyle and a movement at the same time. It is about how you handle life problems with a mindset of being collective that gives a gentleman quality and that is what is missing with the most of our men in today times because too many are quick to act and not look at life like a game of chess. Each move you make must be a quiet one with skill being patient and watching what is in front of you so you can attempt to win the game. Checkmate!
What happens is the smoothness of being cool is knowing that just your walk tells the world that you mean business. It has always been known that a gentleman never has to talk but the very actions of his being can tell a collection of stories about who he is. So remember this line for help and assistance “This is for the Cool in You”. For the gentleman, it always starts inside of the soul that flows out to the public. So in this modern time of today “Thug Happy” society, it’s hard to find the quality of every door opener, every pull the seat out type, every I write a poem just because, and every let’s drink wine and enjoy the night with some smooth music type.
In the past, the gentleman was the essence of truth and kept an account of all of the things he could do to help others. As we can see, there is not a self-check anymore, but do as you please and I will turn a blind eye my oh my, how we have lost our way! That is why I see women make this dreadful statement, “There are more boys in this world and only a few men.”
So to the modern gentleman, I ask, where are you standing? Stop hiding within the trends of today’s culture and stand out as bright as the star that you are. The next generation needs you NOW! We have allowed too much time to pass us by to allow the numbers to fall, so I ask again, where is the modern gentleman? Where are the leaders of the new generation? Where are my men that will educate with knowledge from life lessons and books rather than a gun and drugs in your pocket? Will my new modern gentlemen stand up and speak to us for we stand ready to hear you speak and lead our families. We stand ready, that you will create a community in which you are born to lead.
